The Tale of the Forest and the Arrogant Konda Muchu

Once upon a time, there was a small and peaceful forest. It was home to gentle creatures like rabbits, deer, monkeys, squirrels, and a variety of birds. There were no wild animals such as lions or tigers, and there was no king ruling over them. The animals lived freely, sharing the fruits and nuts they found, playing together, and enjoying their evenings with dance and joy.

One day, a creature called Konda Muchu wandered into the forest from a neighboring jungle. With a long tail and a blackened face, the Konda Muchu looked strange. A baby monkey laughed out loud on seeing him. The mother monkey quickly scolded her child and asked it not to laugh, but the baby couldn't stop giggling.

Konda Muchu became furious. Sensing danger, other monkeys arrived and warned the baby to stay away from him. As they tried to leave, the Konda Muchu shouted, “I am the king of this forest! How dare a baby monkey laugh at me!”

The little monkey thought to himself, "How can someone with a burned face be a king?" and laughed again. Enraged, the Konda Muchu pounced, but the mother monkey swiftly pulled her child to safety and pleaded, “Oh mighty one, this is just a baby. It meant no harm.”

Konda Muchu calmed down slightly and declared, “I come from the neighboring forest where the lion has appointed me king of this forest too.” Seeing fear on their faces, he demanded food. The mother monkey gave him the fruits she had carefully saved, and he warned her to continue bringing more every day. She had no choice but to agree.

For a while, the Konda Muchu continued to bully the animals. The freedom they once enjoyed was gone. One day, unable to bear the insults and fear, the forest animals gathered in secret. The mother monkey then shared an idea to get rid of the Konda Muchu. Everyone agreed and stood together with courage.

The next morning, the mother monkey approached the Konda Muchu and said, “Oh King, it is beneath you to scare small, helpless creatures like us. But now, humans are entering our forest. They speak ill of you and steal our fruits and fields. If you drive them away, you’ll gain respect and we’ll get food too.”

Pleased with the idea, Konda Muchu began chasing away every human he saw. His attacks increased day by day, and soon, the people started to fear him. In search of a solution, a young man named Ajay came up with a clever plan.

He laid down on a cot near a well under a large banyan tree and pretended to sleep. Konda Muchu, sitting on the tree, became furious and decided to push Ajay into the well. As he came down to do so, Ajay secretly tied the Konda Muchu’s tail to the cot. The moment Konda Muchu pushed it, both the cot and he himself fell into the well. Ajay quickly held onto a hanging banyan root and climbed out safely.

Seeing Konda Muchu struggling in the water, Ajay felt pity and pulled him out. Having tasted the fear of death, the Konda Muchu quietly returned to his own forest. Peace was restored.

From then on, the animals in the little forest lived happily and freely once again. And as for Konda Muchu? He no longer bullied others — instead, he only pretended to be scary, just enough to keep people at a distance.
